Why Should A REALTOR Blog?
Over the years I have posted over 3000 articles on real estate topics on real estate blogs. I was one of the first real estate agents to publish a blog. Most of these have been on local real estate blogs on local topics. My first blog was when I owned a mortgage company and I wanted to address the fraudulent and hurtful practices going on within that industry. At the time I had about 100 loan officers working for our company and there were a small portion of potential hires that were dangerous to the consumer. I had pleaded with the State to help those of us brokers to initiative mandatory licensing, which they finally did.
It was soon after I began to write that blog that I decided to write a sister blog on real estate. The technology I used was excellent at telling me the statistics of where the visitors were coming from, what words they clicked in on, and provided valuable information. It was soon evident that as important to me as the mortgage topic was, the real estate blog was far outpacing the viewership of the mortgage blog. The second topic was where the interest was. It usually takes me from one to three hours to produce an article. If I need photos it takes the time to take or find in our albums the photographs I want to use. Reason number one for writing a real estate blog is to connect with the consumer, try and write articles on what they are interested in.
To connect one has to be found. I like to send people to my blogs. I also like to be found via search engines. These are two more reasons to blog about real estate, to be found and have a place to send people. I started writing for MediaOne Real Estate 37 days ago. There are now almost 37 articles on various real estate topics for viewers to read. It doesn’t take reading more than a few of them to make an opinion about me. Another reason number is to provide the consumer with content. This content shares what is called “my voice”, it’s just a written voice. Some will like it and some won’t. I write a real estate blog to create what we call “friends in the computer”.
Regarding number one, the more often, the more consistent, the more on topic, and the longer someone posts on a particular blog the better the search engines treat the website. Being found on or close to page one of the search engines is a goal. The reason this is a benefit to a consumer is that it contains real content, usually about local topics, meant to be of value, and provided in the spirit of service first. This is a stark contrast to the bulk of search engine results on the important real estate websites delivered to the consumer. Most, almost all, are merely lead capture sites with nominal consumer value beyond searching for homes and being captured as a lead. Most of these sites do not provide local content. Most don’t address local needs. Here is where our initiative to post almost a daily article becomes a consumer service. This is why I believe a REALTOR®, real estate agent should blog.
